~Pilates

Pilates is a conditioning program that provides simultaneous stretching and strengthening of the deep abdominal and back muscles, enhancing postural integrity and trunk stability that builds trim, toned bodies.. It focuses on a series of precise, controlled movements instead of emphasizing repetition. For years Pilates exercises have been used to condition and rehabilitate professional dancers. In the 1980’s Pilates was rediscovered and has now become a popular form of exercise for anyone interested in its health benefits.

Pilates exercises with Yoga Pilates by the Sea can be done in one of two ways, either on a piece of equipment called a Reformer in one of our locations or on a mat in a group exercise studio.  Yoga~Pilates by the Sea has offered Pilates Mat Classes for several years. We have a beginner class called Pilates Fundamentals and a more advanced class called Pilates Matt.

You will find the Reformer in our studio location on the bay.   The Reformer is a sliding, bed-like platform anchored at one end of its frame with resistance springs. The platform moves along a track by either pulling on ropes or pushing off from a stationary bar. The challenge of doing exercises on the Reformer comes from the resistance springs while maintaining core and hip stability and in more advanced exercises the challenge is maintaining balance on a moving surface. Our Reformer program consists of Private, Duet (2 people training) and Group (3 or more people training) sessions. (Coming SOON)  Participants must have a basic understanding of the principles of Pilates and have participated in Fundamental Mat classes prior to doing a Reformer class. Anyone can do this type of exercise, both young and old, men and women. Mastering Pilates is a journey. It takes time and consistent training to achieve its rewards. There are literally hundreds of exercises that you will find challenging, both mentally and physically.
